Deana Sue Root passed away in Manteca, on 7/4/2007 after a long More…illness. She was born on April 27, 1963, to Blaine Leon Hawn and Carol Ann Corwin, in Marshalltown Iowa. As an adult, she made her way to Patterson, California where she met and married LLNL employee Daniel Root. Together they made their home in Manteca for eighteen years, and raised five children. She made a career as an administrator at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, and enjoyed quilting, spending time with her family and her many friends. Deana was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. A woman of many talents, she served as a volunteer in the community at various times, as a scout leader, sunday school teacher, and most recently as Relief Society President, the women`s auxiliary in her church. She held an AA from Las Positas College and a Certificate in Management from the University of the Pacific. She is survived by her husband Daniel Root of Manteca. Her son Nicholas Hawn is an airman, who is stationed with his wife Sally at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. Daughter Erin Root is an incoming freshman at East Union High School. Two others, who also work at LLNL, stepson Matthew Root, step-daughter Kirsten Drew (AKA KD Root) Leighton share a home in Lathrop along with granddaughter Renae Leighton. Stepson Brian Root is the art director at an internet media company, and lives in Marina with his wife Jenna. Father Blaine Hawn lives in Lodi, and mother Carol Hawn lives in Corpus Christi, Texas. Brother Danny Hawn lives in the Gilroy area. Family and friends are invited to attend her memorial service on Tuesday, July 10, at 1233 Northgate Dr, Manteca, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Viewing will begin at 10:00 AM, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM. Immediately following the service, mourners are invited to share their memories and enjoy light refreshments in the adjoining cultural hall. Interment will be later in the day at Park View Cemetery, but is restricted to family members and by invitation. Those who wish, may send flowers in care of the funeral director, Mr. Dave Massey, at Park View Cemetery and Funeral Home, 3661 E. French Camp Road, Manteca, CA 95336. Dave and his staff will insure they are cared for, and arrive at the appropriate time and place.
