August 25th, 1941 – Sept. 4th, 2017

Mildred (Millie) Jean Loughrige, 76, passed away peacefully the morning of Sept. 4th, 2017. She was the loving wife of Bill for 56 years, mother of four children, grandmother to ten and great-grandmother to one. Millie was born in Marshalltown, Iowa, the eldest child of Verna and Carl S. Gustafson. After high school Millie attended Marshalltown Junior College for one semester and earned a varsity letter in cheerleading, before moving to Mesa, Arizona with her father and two siblings.

Millie graduated from ASU with a teaching degree in Physical Education. She spent the first year of her teaching career at Mohave Junior High School in Scottsdale, AZ. She worked the remainder of her career in the Tempe Elementary School District at Connolly Jr HS/Middle School.

Millie had many hobbies. She began synchronized swimming in Iowa and after moving to Arizona, she competed and taught at the Tempe Beach Pool. She performed with the Naiads Synchronized Swimming Team at ASU. Millie’s many activities included synchronized swimming, square dancing, sewing, crafting, stamping, card making, world travels & making friends wherever she went.

She is survived by her husband Bill, children Joyce Loughrige & Allison Greenhalgh (Matt); siblings Ken Gustafson (Jody) and Lynn Moore (Allen); grandchildren William Aaron Loughrige (Nick), Kristina King, Jenni Lynn Miller (Rob), Melissa Toops (Josh), Nick Loughrige, Jack Gasho (Josie), Kendyl Biondich, Madeline Greenhalgh, Vivian Greenhalgh; great-grandchild Avrik King. She is preceded in death by sons Kenneth Carl Loughrige (23 mo.) 1964 and William Wayne Loughrige (52) 2013 and grandson Joseph Arter (17) 2013.

Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, Sept 24th. at King of Glory Lutheran Church, 2085 E Southern Ave, Tempe, AZ 85282. Reception to follow service.
