Colonel Donald Wesley Hickman, 65, passed away October 21, 2006 after complications from heart surgery. Don, son of E. Wendell and Thelma Hickman (both retired from Fisher Controls), was a 1959 graduate of Marshalltown High School. He entered into the military in 1960 and later married Bonnie Tweed, his high school sweetheart in 1961. Don was an Air Force T-38 instructor pilot and flew UH-1 helicopters in Vietnam for which he received the Distinguished Flying Cross. He retired from the Air Force in 1987, after 27 years of service and settled in Tucson, Arizona.

He is survived by his wife Bonnie, brother Russell Hickman (Judy), daughter Laurie Fisher (Bill), son Lt. Col. Jeffrey Hickman (Alysia) and his five grandchildren; Jessica, Allison, William, Jonathan and Nicholas.

Don's claim to fame wasn't his career or the honors he received, but his son Jeff and daughter Laurie and of course the grandchildren.

This Memorial Day the family will be gathering at the Southern Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetary in Sierra Vista, Arizona, near Tucson.
