Comments:
Life is good. We returned to our Des Moines home in 2004 following four years in Stockton, CA (where I reconnected with Sandra Butler Smith -see below). U of Pacific was a post-retirement job for Paul - he was construction project manager for a number of major campus buildings - and later the
University hired me as asst. alumni director. I started and hosted the alumni travel program resulting in some nice trips for us and lots of new CA friends.
But Des Moines has been our real home for over 40 years. Our daughter, Janna, was born in 1972 (now a pharmacist with Blue Cross of KC, married and mother of two). My career included almost 20 years as editor for PEO International followed by 10 years at Iowa State U in University Advancement. Paul spent most of his career at Drake University. Now we are retired, travel a lot and enjoy friends and family.
Correction - three daughters:
Note about Sandra Butler Smith - Sas died of an asthma attack in 2002. I had dinner with her a short time before - she was fine then, recently retired and looking forward to new projects. Her death was a shock to everyone. Sas was well known as a very respected California Judge (San Joaquin County) and advocate for abused children. Her books on child abuse are still available. A building in Stockton is named in her honor. Her death was front page news in Stockton and Sacramento papers. Sas had three daughters and was divorced.
