1966-1968: Worked for RCA at Cape Kennedy, FL as an communications technician; lived in Cocoa Beach; took classes at Brevard Community College. Worked on tracking stations and ships down range in the Caribbean and in Norfolk, VA.

1968-1978: Lived in Gainesville, FL while working on B.S. in Technical Journalism ('70); Ed.S. in Instructional Design ('76), and Ph.D. in Higher Education (finally awarded in 1985). All degrees from the University of Florida. During this time I worked as a radio engineer, teaching and graduate assistant, technical writer, and developed a teaching and learning center to help students in academic trouble. From 1972-1975 I directed a National Science Foundation grant to help faculty at 10 Florida colleges develop computer assisted instruction.
1978-1985: Lived in Fayetteville, AR where I worked at the University of Arkansas. Started an Academic Development Office there to help underprepared students succeed in college. The twins lived with me and attended UA for a couple of years. Biked to Marshalltown to attend our 20th HS reunion! Karen and I divorced in 1980.

2005-2006: PT teaching, counseling, writing.
2007-2011: back to work FT as Project Director of a Title III grant to teach faculty in the Iowa Valley Community College District how to teach distance courses; continue part-time teaching and counseling, with a little bit of writing/publishing.
October, 2011-to date: Retired (again, really, this time I really mean it!). I am doing part-time teaching for Marshalltown Community College and Buena Vista University; I am also continuing part-time counseling at Center Associates in Marshalltown and some occasional workshops and consulting activities. But really, I am retired! Linda is going to retire this year, and we plan to spend more time in Florida and South Carolina with my daughters and grandsons.
UPDATE: We really did get to spend 2 1/2 months in Florida and South Carolina this year (2012-13) seeing my daughters and grandchildren. We plan to do this each winter from now on.

School Story:

If it wasn't for gymnastics and diving under the guidance of coach Al Fienup, I may not have made it through high school. He was a coach, a mentor, and friend. He taught me the importance of perseverance and sense of self. He also caught me smoking in the boys' room, a story for another time. . . . .
Okay, here it is: Several of us were smoking in the boy's room at MHS. Someone yelled, "Fienup is coming!" We all dropped our smokes, or, if fast enough, flushed them. I wasn't fast enough. I dropped it and covered it with my foot. "Moore, have you been smoking," Al said. "No sir," I replied. "Well then your tennis shoe is on fire," he said without a smile. I looked down and saw smoke curling up from the partially-covered butt. Cost me a week's suspension from gymnastics and diving. Caught lying to Coach Fienup hurt more than the suspension.

Hi Karen,

I hope you are doing well. Florida's response has been a bit slow, it seems to me, so I am really concerned about all of you that live there. I have been in touch with Andrea and Rebecca, but want to reassure them and you that "sheltering in place" is a very good idea at this time.

Our governor is about as slow (read Republican) as yours to call for full sheltering, but we seem to be doing fairly well in the state right now. Marshall County presently has identified 10 positive cases. Every county but Grundy which touches Marshall has one or more cases. Iowa is around the 700 mark.

We are teaching our courses (two each) totally online this term using ZOOM. Challenging, but doable.

Take good care of yourself.
